Smokey Bear Poster Contest Studio Time

December 5 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Help your kids enter the Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl Poster Contest

For more than 50 years, children in first through fifth grades have put crayon to paper, using their imagination to help convey Smokey Bear’s message of “Only YOU Can Prevent Wildfires!” and Woodsy Owl’s message of “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land!”

The contest is sponsored by the National Garden Clubs, whose members work tirelessly to host, evaluate and bring us the top winners in each grade category. From those grade-level winners, Forest Service employees help select the grand prize winner, who along with his or her family receives airfare and accommodations for a trip to the Nation’s Capitol.

Children who participate use drawings to demonstrate their knowledge about wildfire prevention and basic environmental conservation principles, such as reusing and recycling. This program fits well with other Forest Service programs that help teach young people the importance of this country’s natural resources and plant a seed of stewardship that we hope will grow as they develop.

Our local garden club and River Arts are sponsoring the contest for local first through fifth graders, who are invited to come into River Arts at 411 Main Street, Kamiah, to work on their posters.

In addition to their normal open studio hours of 10 am to 4 pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (with the exception of a closure on December 14), River Arts will also open for poster drawing at 2-6 p.m. Wednesday December 4 and  4-7 p.m. Thursday December 5. The deadline to create a poster is January 20, 2025.

For more information contact River Arts at 208-702-3598.
