Intermediate Needle Felting: Bunny

April 12 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Needle felting is a fun and relaxing craft that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their experience with other kinds of art. Needle felting uses unspun wool to create small animals and objects, or flat pictures that can be framed. In this class we will create a bunny, which requires a more advanced technique to make the fur so it is recommended that you have had at least one felting class.

Please bring a pair of very sharp scissors. Sewing scissors, particularly micro-serrated sewing scissors, will be the best for this project. All other supplies will be provided. This class will dive into the different types of wool and the breeds of sheep who produce them. While you felt, learn about some rare and heritage breeds, and how to choose the right wool for your project out of the hundred of different types. There will be wool from specialty and rare breeds available for you to make your bunny with.

Instructor Lauren Graves lives in Kooskia, where she enjoys creating crafts, painting, and writing novels. She is an award-winning needle felting artist and professional felting instructor. Her felting classes have been hosted in Grangeville, Kamiah, and at Sweet Pines Alpacas in Craigmont.

Class Supply List:
(Please note that these supplies will be provided for you to keep at the time of the class.)

  • Needle felting mat (foam, wool, or natural fiber mats are recommended for beginners)
  • 2-3 leather finger protectors
  • Several felting needles (you will need at least a large, such as a 36 triangle, a medium, such as a 38 star, twist, or triangle, and a small, such as a 40 triangle)
  • Approx. 1/4 ounce of core wool
  • Approx. 1/4 ounce of carded brown or grey wool
  • Small bit of pink and black carded wool
  • Approx. 1/2 ounce of natural or dyed wool roving from a variety of breeds

Class Cost: $35 per person (for supplies)
There is a $15 discount for students who bring their own mat, finger protectors, and needles. If you bring your own supplies, you will be refunded $15 at the time of the class. Wool will be provided for everyone.

Due to the very sharp needles, this class is for ages 12 and up, and kids under 16 years old should be accompanied by an adult.

Please RSVP for this class with the form below. In addition to the $35 supplies fee, you will have an option to make a donation to support River Arts. You can bypass this option by hitting “Continue”. The system treats the RSVP and contact info as separate things so you will need to enter that twice. You will be able to put in the names of everyone in your group and you will also receive email confirmation of your registration and event reminders. We look forward to seeing you in the studio!
